Ozobots for Oakside Elementary
Oakside STEAM Project: Ozobots
The PEF’s initiative for 2022 was to support building the Oakside Elementary School Robotics Program that serves 590 students. With the support of the community and our business donors we raised $18,125 towards this grant for Oakside Elementary.
The goals of this program are:
To awaken curiosity and motivate students to learn about new technologies
To introduce students to the basics of programming and robotics
To enable teachers to create an environment conducive to building interests in computational thinking and programming.
District Wide STEAM Enrichment Pathway
Ozobots at Oakside Elementary are only part of the STEAM Programs in the Peekskill City School District.
This program’s goal is to help students develop critical thinking and collaboration skills as they explore how to program a robot to complete a specific task and the fundamental principles of coding and programming. A tiny robot, the Ozobot Evo, will be used to integrate the physical world with the digital one. The robot will interact with lines, colors, and codes drawn by students on paper or chromebooks to navigate pathways and accomplish tasks as defined by a story problem. This help students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills while they learn the basics of programming. Through the support of the community the PEF has been able to give our scholars the tools to develop the knowledge needed as building blocks to grow STEAM scholars.
Oakside Elementary School is the Peekskill City School District building for 2nd and 3rd Grade students.
