On January 24th, 2023 PEF Treasurer Sal Frega, and Secretary Katriana Mullaney presented a check for our 2022-23 Music Grant Fundraiser to the Peekskill City School District during the Board of Education Meeting. The $14,000 inital check was the proceeds from the Dec. 8th concert in the Peekskill High School STEAM Lab with Daisy Jopling. Daisy joined the board members at the BOE meeting, and spoke as well. Daisy Jopling performed in an intimate concert at the Peekskill High School STEAM Lab to benefit the PEF’s 2022-23 Music Grant, raising funds towards the purchase of items off the Instrument Wishlist. She was joined by Peekskill City School District students from Hillcrest Elementary Orchestra, Peekskill Middle School Orchestra, Peekskill High School City Singers, and a Peekskill High School Drummer. Students also spoke about how important music was, not only to their education, but the impact it has on their lives and futures. The PEF ran a slideshow during the event. Food and Beverage were provided by Rocco’s Downtown, and dessert from HomeStyle Desserts Bakery.
Our 2021-22 fundraising focus was on supporting the building of the Oakside Elementary School Robotics Program. We fundraised $18,125 towards the purchase of Ozobots for the STEAM Lab in this 2nd and 3rd grade building in the Peekskill City School District through corporate and private funding.
Ozobots are tiny robots that will interact with lines, colors and codes drawn on paper by students, and they can also progress to learning how to bring those programing skills into the computer, and control the Ozobots from there.
